Can you imagine taking a happy photo and then later finding out that there’s something strange behind you, although you don’t see it?

10. The Young Pioneers

The creepy photo above, thanks to the internet, has taken on a new life in recent years. However, few of us seem to know the true story behind it.

The image shows the Young Pioneers, a youth group in Soviet Russia, wearing their gas masks during a civil defense drill near Leningrad in 1937.

The image appears to depict people consumed by fear of war during those times. However, the image was meant to convey the efficiency, strength, and preparedness of the youth organization.

Nowadays, the context behind this picture has been twisted and presented in a different way, but the actual story is what we have described above.

9. The First Photobomber

Old-timey photos generally tend to be pretty creepy on their own, but throw in a towering old man overlooking a trio of youngin in what was likely meant to be a pretty innocent photo.

So you have yourself an eerie entry into the internet’s long line of creepy pictures.

There is something truly unnatural about the man in the background as if he were edited in with more modern techniques or is a being not of our realm. Truth be told, he kind of looks like Freddy Krueger. Creepy!

8. The Religious Order

What’s creepier than a photograph of one person with glowing eyes? Dozens upon dozens of religious figures with glowing eyes, that’s what!

From Cardinals to Fathers, this image shows the true side of this religious order, when everybody conforms to the evil that binds them and lets whatever ungodly creature enter their souls.

Either that or it’s an unfortunate lighting error that ruined an otherwise innocent picture.

7. Uncle Ronald Home

We all have that kooky uncle who pulls quarters from behind our ears, tells us embarrassing stories about our parents, and moonlights as a murderous clown, don’t we?

Me neither, but I’m glad someone out there does – because we are left with this twisted 1960s family photograph to give us the chills.

Well, that clown surely looks creepy as hell. Imagine having him in your house.

6. Odessa Catacombs

The Odessa Catacombs of Ukraine is a winding, snaking circuit of caves and passageways that make up the largest catacombs in the world.

Since they’re incredibly difficult and dangerous to navigate, the Ukrainian government sealed off all entrances to the tunnels. But that hasn’t stopped thrill-seekers and urban explorers from trying their luck in the winding tunnels.

Enter this eerie photograph, which allegedly shows three youthful adventurers stumbling upon the remains of a young girl who got lost in the catacombs two years prior and likely eventually starved to death.

Whether the picture is genuine may be a viable question, but it’s still eerie to think about chancing upon the remains of an unfortunate soul.

5. Telling Graffiti

Well, here’s something you don’t want to stumble upon while you’re traversing the underbelly of… well… anywhere.

This extremely telling bit of graffiti was found by a photographer, who thankfully didn’t meet the individual who wrote it.

Of course, we’re not really thinking somebody confessed on a cement wall about dismembering another person.

But isn’t it best to assume this is one of the creepiest things you’ll ever come across and that the person who wrote it is still lurking in the shadows?

4. Redbox Possession

This is a pretty popular image that’s found its way around the internet numerous times and it seemed like we needed to finally include it in one of our creepier videos.

Have you ever been so annoyed flipping through a Redbox library that you suddenly become possessed by an otherworldly being?

The seemingly impossible angle of this girl’s neck initially gives us the chill and then logic sets in. It’s clearly just an alien that needed to lift its realistic human mask to see what was available to rent.

3. Madam Violet

This is a picture of Violet Spears, otherwise known as Madam Violet. She was the leader of a group of real-life vampires in Edinborough in the late 19th century.

They were called the hive. They became known as lovely but dangerous partiers, seducing men and women with substance abuse, and then making them donate their blood to them.

Some of the victims even joined the Hive and she became their leader too. In 1882 and 1884, she was apparently voted the scariest woman in England, even though she lived in Scotland – that’s how scary she is.

2. Obsession Beyond The Grave

Carl Tanzler was a radiology technician from Germany. He moved to Florida where he met a patient named Maria de Hoyos, a local Cuban American woman.

She died of tuberculosis 5 years later, despite his best efforts to save her. He wouldn’t accept her death though. After her funeral, Tanzler dug up Maria’s body and took it to his home.

He attempted to preserve her. This is the picture of his efforts. Her body was eventually discovered by authorities a full 9 years after he first removed her from her resting place.

1. St. Augustine Lighthouse Ghost

When this photo of the St. Augustine Lighthouse, one of the oldest structures in America, was taken, the photographer noted nothing out of the ordinary.

However, on looking back over the photo, he was astonished to find the image of a woman, standing at the railing, looking into the distance. The problem was that no one was there when the photo was taken.

Interestingly, many people have reported strange phenomena at the lighthouse – voices heard when no one else is around, mysterious shadows, and several apparitions including that of a woman on the lighthouse stairs.

Two young girls have also been reported walking near the top of the tower. The mysterious figure in the photograph is said to be the ghost of a 10-year-old girl who suffered a tragic fate on that lighthouse.
