Are these AI traffic camera in Kerala capturing ghost co-passengers in e-challans? As ghostly passengers apparently don’t exist and are only captured by the AI cameras.

An apparition, a technical glitch, or pareidolia? Or have the ‘Yakshis’ from the popular Indian lore started to haunt the roads?

Whatever the case, the motor vehicle department in Kerala, India, is having to deal with ‘encounters of the spooky kind’ when it comes to its artificial intelligence (AI) cameras in the district.

AI traffic camera in Kerala have been at the center of a peculiar mystery regarding the ghost passengers in the tickets (e-challans).

These high-tech cameras, initially installed to upgrade road safety and enforce traffic regulations, are now capturing spooky images that are stirring up widespread intrigue and concern.

Ghost captured on camera?

In a baffling turn of events, these ‘smart’ road watchers have once again captured footage of the mystifying presence ‘accompanying’ occupants of vehicles, creating headaches and confusion for the department.

To make matters worse, the images in these eerie tickets have started circulating on social media, with rumors of other-worldly guests taking a free ride inside the vehicles.

The most recent case involves Meethale Kunnath Ali, a mineral water distributor from Kerala. Ali received a surprising traffic ticket from the Motor Vehicles Department for not wearing a seat belt while driving his vehicle.

However, he received the shock of his life when he saw the accompanying image. It showed a ‘strange’ woman seated just next to him in the car – a woman he claims he has never seen before.

He acknowledged that the car in the image is his and the person sitting inside is him. But, has no knowledge of the strange woman inside his car.

While having no trouble paying the fine, Ali urged officials to explain the mysterious presence of the strange woman in the car.

“I am ready to pay the fine. But, officials should explain the presence of a woman in the car,” Ali said. The e-challan was issued for not wearing a seat belt. “I contacted the officials but am yet to receive a satisfactory reply,” he added.

As reported by the New Indian Express, Ali confidently insists that he was traveling alone and had not even felt like someone is sitting beside him.

Uninvited guest from the other-world?

A strange woman sitting right behind the driver wasn’t there at that particular instance.

This incident is not an isolated case; it closely follows another peculiar occurrence in Kannur district in Kerala, where an AI camera issued a similar ticket to a family.

In this instance, the AI camera clicked a photo of both the driver and co-driver not wearing seatbelts – a clear violation of the traffic rules. However, the image also reveals a woman sitting just behind the driver’s seat.

While this seems normal, according to the driver and passenger, there was no such person traveling with them.

In fact, he was with his family and the image showed a strange woman sitting in the back seat, where the two children were supposed to be seated.

The camera uncannily displays an eerie image of a strange woman instead of the children sitting in the back seat. Bewilderingly enough, the children who were actually sitting at the back are not even visible in the picture.

Looking into the details, the couple told the authorities that two kids were traveling with them in the back seat and not the strange woman who’s visible in the image.

“We are not in a position to explain as it involves technical issues,” the RTO (enforcement) said according to New Indian Express. The Motor Vehicles Department, equally bemused, has not been able to provide a clear answer yet.

Ghosts or technical glitch?

The MVD recently installed 726 AI cameras across the state to nab traffic violators. Though these AI cameras are proving their worth, they often are in the limelight because of these unexplained incidents.

These spooky images of so-called ‘ghostly’ sightings began cropping up ever since. Also, the spooky images only occurring at night add another layer of mystery to the case.

The department later came up with a short explanation, attributing this anomaly to a technical glitch causing one image to overlap with another.

However, even if the photos do overlap, it’s highly implausible that the so-called images of the apparitions are so impeccably placed into the car seats, with none of the images bleeding out of the car’s boundaries.

Why only a particular place?

What’s even more mystifying is that these spooky images seem to crop up only in a particular region. If this was a technical glitch or AI issue, similar reports could have emerged in other regions around the world as well.

Also, why just women? Why are the high-tech cameras not capturing images of spooky male co-passengers as well? As far as we know, AI has no qualms against any particular gender.

Some people are also speculating that these images could be an elaborate prank. However, there is no evidence to support this outlandish claim.

The traffic AI camera capturing ghost passengers in Kerala has sparked debate among the public mixed with concern and curiosity, while some online reactions humorously suggest ghostly presences.

While the actual cause still remains a mystery, the department is keen on resolving these technical anomalies quickly to restore faith in their AI-based enforcement system.
