The Amityville house at 112 Ocean Avenue has been covered by a shroud of horror since the brutal family murder that took place in the house on November 14, 1974, at around 3:15 am.

23 years old, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. shot and killed his whole family on that day.

But despite this horrendous event, what made the house famous were the horror stories experienced by the Lutz family while living there for only 28 days.

The stories include waking up at 3:15 am every day, the time of the murder; levitating from their beds; hearing strange banging noises, and seeing green slime oozing from walls and keyholes. Indeed one of the most haunted places to spend a night in.

It was built by Sarah Winchester, the heir of the Winchester firearms. What made Sarah different from everyone else was the death of her husband and child.

According to rumors, Sarah consulted a seer after her family’s death.

The seer told Sarah that her family was killed by angry spirits and she had to build a house in California to appease them. This strange horror house has staircases that lead to nowhere.

Regarded as one of the most haunted places in India, Bhangarh Fort is a stretch of abandoned land in Rajasthan, India. According to legend, the land was cursed by an evil sorcerer after being rejected by a local princess, Princess Ratnavi.

He proclaimed that all souls that dared enter the land will be trapped there forever. And nowadays, it is said that eerie voices can be heard from the fort. However, you have to be lucky enough to witness them.

Even animals don’t dare to enter the site at night. As for the souls who dared to do so, they’re reportedly never seen again.

This is what prisoners experienced in this penitentiary—no personal contact whatsoever. Prisoners were even forced to wear sacks when they strolled outside their cells. It was enough to drive many to insanity.

With that you can only imagine the out of this world sightings in this place – evil and endless laughter in cell 12; the sound of pacing in cells; the appearance of shadowy figures; and banging of cell doors.

Since 1800, the White House has been home to the most powerful individual in all of the countries – the President of the United States.

Because of this, legends say that many did not want to cut ties with that huge amount of power and chose to linger inside the house. Past presidents, their families, and other notable individuals have told chilling stories about the building.

In one of its rooms, the Lincoln Bedroom, the spirit of Abraham Lincoln still lingers. He has been sighted by Winston Churchill, Teddy Roosevelt, and many more.

He was often seen standing over the room’s fireplace. It’s also said that sudden cold spots and eerie noises can be experienced inside the White House.

One of the world’s bloodiest battles took place at the Gettysburg Battlefield during the American Civil War. Over 50,000 young men shed their blood as a result of this 3-day conflict.

It is no wonder why many paranormal sightings have taken place in this area. Renowned as the most haunted battlefield in the world, any of these young soldiers can still be seen haunting the area.

However, Some were seen looking for their weapons and others for their comrades, unaware that the battle ended long ago.

A pagan burial ground, child sacrifices, and devil worship – this is the tale of the Ancient Ram Inn. Apparitions of children; witches; and an Incubus have haunted this place.

When the inn started as a bed and breakfast, people would often flee in the middle of the night because of unwanted apparitions and the feeling of cold hands suddenly touching or grabbing them.

Some guests were so scared that they even jumped out of windows.

2. Poveglia Island – Italy

Located between Venice and Lido in Italy, has a dark history. During the Dark Ages, the island became the burial grounds of victims of the black plague.

People who died and people who were dying from the deadly disease were burned, buried, or left to rot in the island. In addition to this horrific story, a mental asylum was built on the island in 1922.

There, patients were tortured and experimented on by doctors. To this day, the screams and moans of the dead can still be heard across the island. So much so that locals refuse to visit the island and fishermen dare not fish around the island.

Blood stains the walls of Myrtles Plantation in Louisiana. According to lore, the plantation witnessed 10 murders in total. The most famous of which was the murder of Chloe, a slave of the Woodruff family.

Her ear was chopped off for eavesdropping on her master’s conversation with his wife. Thirsty for revenge, Chloe poisoned the food of Woodruff’s wife and his two children, resulting in the 2 children’s deaths.

Afraid of their master’s wrath, the other slaves hanged Chloe for her crime. The legend say their spirits are still trapped behind a mirror.

Till this day, Chloe, Woodruff’s two children, and other ghosts killed on the plantation still haunt the estate. As a result, when the plantation was turned into a bed and breakfast in the 1970s, guests experienced horrific sightings and sensations.
