Almost ten years later, we will be getting a much-awaited sequel to the breakout horror movie It Follows: They Follow.

A direct sequel to the 2014 cult horror It Follows, titled They Follow, is in the making with director David Robert Mitchell and actor Maika Monroe reuniting while ‘Parasite’ fame studio Neon will produce the follow-up.

They Follow

After narrowly surviving a menacing, supernatural entity following her every step after an intimate encounter, what would the main antagonist Jay do?

Well, sign up for another exciting feature-length movie to relive those chilly encounters all over again.

With the news of its official announcement, the legacy of It Follows is now alive and kicking with a proper sequel, titled “They Follow.”

The announcement is yet another welcome success for low-budget original horror, which has proven to be one of the most reliable box-office earners around for several years running.

It Follows focuses on the central character Jay, who is chased by an unknown supernatural force after having a cozy encounter with her boyfriend.

After learning that the menacing entity following her is transferred by physical intimacy, she has to keep running for her life while facing the difficult decision of either finding a new victim or dealing with it for the rest of her life.

It Follows was termed a modern horror favorite because of its unique premise and slow-building tension.

Released back in 2014, It Follows quickly became a critical and commercial hit, making $15 million worldwide on a meager budget of around $1 million.

The news comes as horror movies like Talk To Me are continuing to impress the viewers despite their low budgets.

Other horror sequels, like those for The Black Phone and more recently Talk To Me, have also been announced.

It Follows also marked a major breakout for Maika Monroe, who’s since appeared in movies like Honey Boy and Independence Day: Resurgence.

The director and writer David Mitchell, meanwhile, last directed Under the Silver Lake, a 2018 neo-noir mystery movie, starring Andrew Garfield.

However, the plot of the sequel, along with cast members, is yet to be revealed. So the details surrounding the plot of They Follow are inadequate, other than the fact that Maika Monroe will be reprising the role of Jay Height.

The sequel also marks the return of the original producers of the movie, Erik Rommesmo, David Kaplan, Rebecca Green, and Laura Smith.

Production for the new film is predicted to go on floors in 2024, aiming for a successful release, ten years from the sweet success of It Follows, which was made on a shoestring budget.

There’s no actual release date yet, as principal photography will begin in 2024. Good Fear Content will serve as a co-producer along with Neon.

With David returning as both director and writer of the sequel and Maika ready to reprise her character Jay Height, we are expecting another horror-fest for It Follows fans.
