Especially the haunted hospital or Abbey of Abbott Mount in Champawat, Uttarakhand.

The Abbey

In the stunning mountains of Champawat district in Uttarakhand lies a beautiful hill station called Lohaghat which has a transcendent history embedded in its meadows.
In this location lies Abbott Mount, which is principally a Mansion on Abbott Hill. Sitting in the lap of the Himalayas, the mansion called ‘Abbey’ is where locals have recounted uncanny activities.
The locals still believe that there’s a weird, deviant power residing in the premises of the bungalow which has a negative aura that keeps the people away from exploring it.
Consequently, there are few ghost stories known to the locals which would probably keep you awake all night.
History of Abbott Mount
This place has all the elements – a haunted sick room, a disregarded Church, and a graveyard – to generate your curiosity.
However, you would probably discover that it’s just like any other British structure. Painted in white and embraced by trees bestowing it a serene look if you look at the bungalow.
But this enchanting place which allures the visitants with its mystical mojo has some deep dark secrets beneath that are ready to be uncovered.
The elegance of this location was uncovered by an Englishman, John Abbott, and that’s how the location got its name, Abbott Mount.
He constructed a manor here known as Abbey Mansion, roughly a century ago in the early 1900s. Afterward in 1942, he erected a Church in remembrance of his wife which is presently known as the Haunted Church.
The Beginning
John Abbott in his end years decided to donate the Bungalow for charitable purposes. He died in 1945. Abbey Mansion was soon converted into a hospital after the death of Mr. Abbott, which was the commencement of something shady.
Since the hospital was substantiated as a charitable trust it was always swamped with patients, who came there to seek genuine medical attention.
But as soon as the main antagonist of the story, Dr. Morris joined in, the air of the hospital changed. That is when the spooky affairs began to manifest themselves.
However, the most apparent and fascinating affair of Dr. Morris consisted of his extraordinary claims. He could precisely foretell a patient’s death, its accurate day and time.
Prophecies and Deaths
Morris was known to do some peculiar trials on his patients. He was keen to know the secret of death. He needed to understand, what precisely happens in the human brain when the time of death comes.
This is when he started to predict the exact day of death of his patients.
All similar patients, about whom the prophecies were made, were allegedly transferred to a different structure nearly a kilometer away, now known as Mukti Kothri (House of Freedom)
Mukti Kothri and The Haunted Hospital
The patients transferred to Mukti Kothri were found dead on the particular day, which the doctor foretold! Interestingly, all similar patients were typically the ones who didn’t have any near or dear ones to take care of.
This started gathering attention from places around Lohaghat and the doctor became notorious for his prophecies. Some people allege that Morris used to murder his patients to boast about his prophecies.
Rumors started brewing as to whether these were cold-blooded murders committed by Dr. Morris or the deaths were simply due to natural causes.
Or the doctor indeed had some otherworldly power in foretelling death with such exactness and delicacy? I guess, we would never know the real truth behind his prophecies.
Abbey the Haunted Hospital
Decades passed by, and the stories of spirits started circulating. The spirits of Dr. Morris and his patients haunting around the mansion. Though no one has exactly seen their spirits but numerous claim to have heard them whispering, and calling their names!
Apart from the haunted mansion, there are other ghostly sightings that the locals narrate. Including the ones called ‘Bhoot Ki Daang’ where two tall ghostly figures are seen walking on the road.
It is said that witnessing those ghostly figures together is a bad omen and something disastrous will befall you.
There’s an entire episode on this haunted mansion which was aired on the horror show “Fear Files.” Rest the mysteries surrounding the Abbey and Dr. Morris would probably remain unsolved.
